Men's Leagues

Mid-VA Senior Golf
Thursday Night Match Play

Mid-VA Senior Golf Association

The Greene Hills Men's Senior League is open to all male members ages 50 and over.  Please contact GHC member Lee Fuller if you are interested in participating in this league.

The league has two divisions.  GHC plays home and home matches with each team in our division and as well as one match against each team in the other division, alternating home or away every other year.  In each match, 10 twosomes from each team compete in a best ball match play format.  The team is awarded 1 point for winning a hole and each team gets 1/2 a point when a hole is halved, for a total of 18 points in each match.  There are a total of 180 points at stake each week.  At the end of the season, the team with the highest average number of points per match in each Division is the winner and the two Division winners play a match to determine the League Champion.

Clubs that participate in this league are:

Blue Division                                     Gray Division

Thursday, July 23:  Fauquier Springs Green 102 / Greene Hills 78
Thursday, August 6:  Greene Hills 97 / Gauntlet 83

The results of the August 6th final regular matches are:  In the Blue Division, Fawn Lake won at home over FCC 107.5 to 72.5 and Greene Hills won at home over The Gauntlet 97 to 83. After a tight battle all year in which Greene Hills lead for quite awhile, this allowed Fawn Lake to win the regular league schedule. This places Fawn Lake at Fauquier Springs against the White Team for the overall championship.

In the Gray Division, Lake of the Woods won at home over The Regency 108.5 to 71.5.  Other matches not included in the division point standings had Culpeper CC winning at home over Cannon Ridge 67 to 41, and the battle of the Springs had the Green team winning 113.5 to 102.5 with both playing 12 teams.

Matches for the week of August 10 are (with final division averages and home teams listed first):

Fauquier Springs White (96.3) vs. Fawn Lake (95)
Lake of the Woods (92.8) vs. Fauquier Springs Green (94.1)
Greene Hills (93) vs. Regency (85.8)
Gauntlet (89.3) vs. Culpeper (85.1)
Fredericksburg vs. Cannon Ridge

The MVSGA team finished third in their division after contending for the crown most of the year. They defeated the third place team in the other division (Regency) in the playoffs to end the season on a positive note.  Congratulations to all the GHC members who participated in this league and to Lee Fuller, GHC "Commissioner".
