GH Finishes Strong in First Citizens Junior Golf Tour Championship
The championship for the First Citizens Junior Golf Tour was held on Tuesday, August 10, at Spring Creek Golf Course. This was the 10th and final tournament of this tour in the 2010 season.
Congratulations to Caleb Martin who finished high in the standings for the Boys 14-15 Year Old Division.
Logan Yates shot a 76 to win both the individual title and 'Player of the Year' awards in the Boys 12-13 Year Old Division.
In the Boys 9-11 Year Old Division, Austin Crenshaw placed second overall, followed closely by Isaiah Boucher in third.

Women's Tuesday Night League Results
Congratulations to the Gold Team for winning the regular season! Members of the Gold Team are Bobbie Locker, Mary Cave, Linda Lewicki, Jane Fleming, Carolyn Daly, Amy Whittington, Marcia Canada, and Beth Eddins.
The League Tournament Championship was played on Sunday, August 15. The Blue Team won this 18-hole event! Congratulations to Anne Scott, Jennifer Morris, Pat Crigler, Sue Ellen Breeden, Yancey Harrison, Frances Clore, Tara Harrison and Kelly J. Shifflett on their win!
Weston Eklund Captures Jefferson Cup - August 8
GH golfer and rising redshirt sophomore on Radford University's golf team, Wes Eklund shot rounds of 67 - 71 - 70 to win the 2010 Jefferson Cup match. The 3-day tournament was held at the par 72 Birdwood Golf Course, Aug 6 - 8. Eklund started his final round at 6-under par and finished at 8-under for what is thought to be a Jefferson Cup record 208. Congratulations, Wes!
Lauren Eklund Wins Reines City Championship - August 8
Lauren Eklund, GH golfer and rising junior at Albemarle High School, won the Reines Jewelers Women's City Championship by 12 strokes, posting a two-day total of 147. The event was held at the par-70 Meadowcreek Golf Course in Charlottesville. This was the second time in 3 years Lauren has won this event.
GH golfer Bobbie Locker placed second in the event, shooting impressive rounds of 78 - 81. Fellow GH golfer, Jennifer Morris, shot 87 - 78 to win second place in the first flight. Greene Hills was well represented at this event. Other golfers participating include Sara J. Haney, Abby MacBride, and Linda Lewicki.
Men's Thursday Night League Results
The championship round of the Men's Thursday Night League was held Sunday, August 8, between the Yellow and the Red teams. Congratulations to the Yellow Team for winning the championship. The players on the Yellow team are: Blake Dudding, Rick Smith, Mike Duvall, Mark Arsenault, Bill Cave, Leo Kennon, Jerry Worley, and Bill Crigler.
The Red team won the regular season championship. Congratulations to Steve Ripley, Billy Fitzgerald, Jack Hardgrove, Greg Lamb, Ed Laliberte, Pat Beauregard, Max Booe and Norm Pearson.
Adult/Youth Tournament - August 7
19 teams participated in this annual event. Everyone had a great time and it's obvious that there's lots of young golfing talent at Greene Hills.

GH Wins Ladies League of Virginia
Congratulations to the GH Ladies for another stellar season! The Virginia League consists of 10 teams from Northern and Central Virginia for golfers whose handicaps are less than 20. Greene Hills was the 2008 league winner and finished 3rd in the league in 2009. GH members participating in this league were Alexa Boucher, Debbie Brown, Jeannette Deavers, Betty Eheart, Debbie Estes, Sara J. Haney, Linda Lewicki, Bobbie Locker, Kay Nichol, and Anne Scott.

VSGA Youth Championship
The 4th VSGA Youth Championship was held at Independence Golf Club in Midlothian, VA on August 4 -5. With a record 54 participants, the field was divided by age group. Congratulations to Austin Crenshaw who shot a 91-82 to take 2nd place in the Boys 10-11 division. And congratulations, also, to Logan Yates, who shot a two-day total 167 to finish 14th in the Boys 12-13 division. Greene Hills continues to be well-represented in tournament play throughout the state.
Moyers Wins Berth in US Amateur
Greene Hills golfer Mikey Moyers easily won medalist honors in sectional qualifying for the 2010 US Amateur Golf Championship. Moyers, a WMHS graduate and rising sophomore at Virginia Tech, shot a 36-hole total of five-under-par 139 at the 6,862-yard, par 72 Birdwood Golf Course on Monday, August 2. The US Amateur will be played Aug. 23-29 at Chambers Bay in University Place, Washington.
In the qualifying event at Birdwood, Moyers shot a 2-under-par 70 in the morning, followed by a 69 in the afternoon to win medalist honors by 3 strokes. This will be his first appearance in the US Amateur.
LGA-Sponsored Mixed Shamble - July 10
36 players joined in the fun for this Mixed Shamble event. The format was: 6 holes 1 best ball net shamble, 6 holes 2 best ball net shamble, and 6 holes of Captain's Choice.

First Citizens Junior Golf Tour
This Junior Golf Tour, sponsored by First Citizens Bank, is a great oppportunity for young golfers, ages 6 through 18, to compete at a variety of courses in Central Virginia. Boys and girls compete together in five age groups: 6-8, 9-11, 12-13, 14-15, and 16-18. The 6-8 and 9-11 age groups play 9 holes. The purpose of this tour is:
(1) To provide well-run, fun and competitive golf tournaments for junior golfers of all ages and skill levels in Central Virginia
(2) To develop character, respect and sportsmanship
(3) To foster and encourage positive friendships and community commaraderie
8 - 10 individual tournaments are played throughout Central Virginia from late June through early August culminating in a tour championship and the presentation of Player of the Year Awards. Greene Hills is fortunate to be represented by a number of junior golfers:
In the 9-11 age group: Austin Crenshaw, Isaiah Boucher, and Joel Kennon
In the 12-13 age group: Mitchell Batten, Logan Yates, Yancey Harrison, and Drew Tate
In the 14-15 age group: Caleb Martin, Taylor Cason, Austin Batten, Lauren Eklund and Jason Bell
In the 16-18 age group: Brian Snow and David Chonoles
As of August 1, 9 events had been completed. Isaiah Boucher and Austin Crenshaw are 2nd and 3rd, respectively, in their division and Joel Kennon is ranked in the top 10. Logan Yates is 3rd in his division and Mitchell Batten and Yancey Harrison are ranked in the top 10. Caleb Martin is 4th in his division. Men's Member-Guest - June 25-27
Congratulations to the teams of Tommy Bibb and N.H. Holt and Steve DeMasters and David Passerell, 2010 co-champions of the Men's Member-Guest Tournament. Because of the lengthy rain delay on Sunday, darkness set in by the time the tournament ended making a playoff impossible. It was determined that Greene Hills would have co-champions. Bibb and Holt shot 63-64 and DeMasters and Passerell shot 64-63, ending in the tie. Coming into #18 Sunday afternoon, Bibb and Holt held a one-shot lead, but had to settle for a par, while DeMasters and Passerell birdied the 160-yard par 3 finishing hole. Finishing in 3rd place in the Championship flight was the father-son team of Ray Dingledine and Rafer Dingledine, shotting 66,70 for a 136 total.

Reines Jewelers Charlottesville Junior Golf Championship
Congratulations to several GH golfers for representing our club at this golf championship. Austin Crenshaw won the 11 & under division, a 9-hole event. Logan Yates placed second in the 12-13 Division, shooting a 71 and losing by only one stroke. In the 16-17 Division, David Chonoles tied for 7th place with a round of 75. Congratulations to these junior golfers!
Lauren Eklund, GH golfer and rising junior at Albemarle High School, shot a 3-day total 241 to place 13th in the 33rd Virginia Women's Stroke Play Championship. The event was held at the Wood's Course at Kingsmill Resort and was sponsored by the Virginia State Golf Association.
Moyers Wins Cannon Cup
Mikey Moyers, GHC golfer and rising sophomore at Virginia Tech, won the Cannon Cup at Spring Creek Golf Club on Sunday, June 13. Moyers' win is the first for a local golfer this summer in competition for the Bill Battle Trophy. This trophy is awarded annually to the top amateur golfer in Central Virginia. Moyers was 6 under par on the 2-day round, finishing with a 138 to capture the win. Fellow GHC golfer and Radford University player, Weston Eklund, finished with a 146 to tie for eighth place in the competition.
In the senior division, Randy Michie posted a total score of 150 to win 3rd place and Pokey Buchanan finished in 5th place with a 153.

This new event for 2010 proved to be lots of fun. Format was singles match play from the white tees for men. All matches were played using 100% of course handicap. The higher handicap player received the full difference in course handicap between the two players. The lower handicap player played from scratch.

Ohio native and first-year UVa student, Mac McLaughlin, shot a tournament total 144 to win the 29th Annual Greene Hills Invitational. McLaughlin, a member of the UVa golf team, won by 3 strokes over Manakin-Sabot's David Partridge. Scott Garrison shot a 6-over 148 to finish third, while Steve Lovelace finished fourth with a 7-over 149. Low senior was David Partridge and low junior was Chris Hickman. 18-Hole Spring Fling!
Greene Hills opened its golfing season with an 18-hole Spring Fling, held on Saturday, March 20! On the front 9, each foursome played 4-person Captain's Choice, gross score only. On the back 9, teams played a Shamble format: two best balls net of the foursome, tee shot was played as Captain's Choice then everyone played their own ball the rest of the hole. The entry fee included dinner afterwards of chili, corn bread, beer and soft drinks. The winners were:
